MEDIA RELEASE 3 July 2007

New outdoor adventure retailer coming to Adelaide
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will open its first SA store in the Adelaide suburb of Mile End on Saturday, 14 July 2007.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

Anaconda currently has seven stores four in Queensland, one in NSW, one in Victoria and one in WA, with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.

"Our research told us that South Australians love getting outside to experience the natural wonders of their home state so it's an obvious place for us to want to set up the new store. The Mile End store is centrally located between the ocean and the hills so it's an ideal location for outdoor lovers to visit," Darvall said.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole spectrum of people in-between.

"The concept behind the stores is based on our belief that Australians want to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping so pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing are in all our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'," he added.

Mile End Store Manager Brett Thompson, who is an Adelaide local, is looking forward to the challenge.

"We have recruited around 40 local staff and training is underway. My management team and I have background in outdoor and camping retailing and we're so excited about the idea of sharing this experience with our customers," Brett said.

The new store, to be located on Railway Terrace, Mile End, occupies 3,500 square metres and will offer over 35,000 products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Merrell, Garmin, Macpac, Kona, Edelrid as well as Anaconda exclusive brands Spinifex, Denali, Mojiko Tactical, Canyon, Dune and Fluid and others. For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

Anaconda can be contacted on 1300 669 137 or by visiting www.anaconda.com.au.
