Australian waterless car wash joins the carbon revolution
With transport becoming one of Australia's fastest growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions, waterless car washing and detailing franchise Ecowash Mobile has joined forces with carbon offsetting organisation Greenfleet to further reduce its impact on the environment.

Greenfleet, a not-for-profit organisation, will plant an average of 263 native trees every year to offset the 72 tonnes of greenhouse gases generated annually by the fleet of cars operated by Ecowash Mobile franchisees.

Ecowash Mobile co-founders Jim Cornish and Stewart Nicholls said that through this initiative they are providing their customers with an even more environmentally-friendly car washing service.

"We want to be part of the solution and offer car owners a greener alternative. What we're really working on is to take car washing to the next level - we don't use any water, our 2-in-1 wash and polish is biodegradable and now we're also offsetting the emissions from our fleet of cars," Jim said.

"We chose to partner with Greenfleet because the organisation is dedicated to doing the right thing for the environment. Greenfleet works closely with environmental groups to establish a planting list of species which would have been growing at different sites before they were cleared," Stewart said.

Ecowash Mobile currently has 42 franchisees operating 50 mobile units all across Australia washing around seven cars a day which equates to a saving of about 315,000 litres of water a week*. The company has already saved over 24 million litres of water since it started in 2004, as listed on its website

The business has also taken off overseas and is now established and operational in Saudi Arabia, UAE (United Arab Emirates), Bahrain and France.

In addition to its cars being carbon neutral, Ecowash Mobile was awarded in March 2006 the 'Smart Approved Watermark', the nation's reference for choosing products, services and organisations that are reducing outdoor water use.

The Ecowash Mobile process uses a 2-in-1 biodegradable wash and polish compound that is sprayed onto the car exterior, which encapsulates surface dirt that is then removed with a soft cloth and provides a protective coating. The whole process lasts for four to six weeks and is guaranteed not to scratch.

A variety of services is on offer, from a basic waterless wash and polish right through to a full detail called an Extreme Ecowash, to suit individual car owners, car dealers, smash repairers and corporate fleets.
