MEDIA RELEASE 8 April 2005
Local discount fuel program to rival Coles and Woolworths chain
A new discount fuel program, called beepp, was launched on the Northern
Beaches this week. The program aims to rival the Coles and Woolworths network,
giving local retailers and independent petrol stations a chance to fight back.
The Northern Beaches is one of the first regions in Sydney to be part of this
new national initiative, which is different from the Coles and Woolworths
programs, chiefly because it operates on a cumulative basis.
Chris Ryan, local distributor for beepp, says this program is unique because
there is no limit on the amount you can save.
“Cents per litre is deceiving because if an average fuel fill is 40 litres, and
you get a four cent rebate per litre, that equates to only a $1.60 saving on
each fill. A beepp card is worth $1 – it’s like instant cash. If you shop at a
retailer participating in the beepp program, you could walk out with five cards.
That equates to $5 off your fuel fill,” Ryan said.
“The great thing about our program is that it gives local independent outlets,
many of which have suffered, an opportunity to compete with the Coles and
Woolworths retail network,” said Ryan.
Under the program, local participating retail outlets can distribute beepp
cards, or ‘$1 vouchers’ as part of an ongoing reward program with their
customers, who can then cumulate their vouchers at will, and redeem them at
participating local petrol stations.
A host of Northern Beaches service stations have already joined the program
including BP Allambie Heights, Caltex Star Mart Narrabeen, BP North Avalon,
Metro Petroleum Forestville and Prime Harbord Service Station.
Participating retailers include Civic Video Balgowlah, Good 'n Healthy at
Belrose, Bilgola Cellars, John Wooldridge & Staff Master Butcher at Forestville,
Col Voss Automatic Transmission, Vital Peripheral Supplies Pty Ltd and Owen
Tyres at Brookvale, The Coffee Club Warringah Mall, Harbord Pharmacy, Harford
Butchers and The Captains Freshwater Store at Harbord, Total Look Beauty Therapy
at Harbord, Civic Video Manly, The Steyne Hotel, Manly, The Coffee Club Mona
Vale, and North Avalon Cellars.
Local beepp fuel outlets are printed on the back of each card, or a nationwide
list can be obtained from the internet at www.beepp.com.au.
