MEDIA RELEASE 9 May 2007

New outdoor adventure retailer coming to Perth
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will open its first WA store in the northern Perth suburb of Joondalup in mid-June.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had previously been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

Anaconda currently has six stores four in Queensland, one in NSW and one in Victoria, with expansion plans to other states in the near future.

"Our research told us that West Australians love getting outside to experience the great natural wonders of their home state so it's an obvious place for us to want to set up the new store," Darvall said.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole spectrum of people in-between.

"The concept behind the stores is based on our belief that Australians want to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping so pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing are in all our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'," he added.

The new store, to be located on Joondalup Drive, occupies 3,000 square metres and will offer over 35,000 products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Merrell, Garmin, Macpac, Kona, Edelrid as well as Anaconda exclusive brands Spinifex, Denali, Mojiko Tactical, Canyon, Dune and Fluid and others. For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

Recruitment of over 30 staff is almost complete and training has begun. Store Manager, Joffrey Noel who is a Perth local is looking forward to the challenge. He has a background in surf and clothing retail and is also a qualified ski and snowboard instructor.

Anaconda can be contacted on 1300 669 137 or by visiting www.anaconda.com.au.
