MEDIA RELEASE 9 November 2005
The Essential Ingredient moves to Crows Nest
After 15 years in Camperdown, The Essential Ingredient is on the move. The
gourmet food and kitchenware store has crossed the Bridge and re-located to
Crows Nest located at 477 Pacific Highway, near the Five-Ways Junction. The new
flagship store opened for trade this week
The premises will accommodate the enormous variety of gourmet foods, cookware
and culinary books that make The Essential Ingredient a one stop shop for the
culinary minded.
The proprietor Don Hodgson had been searching for the perfect location for the
new Sydney store, which is now a franchised outlet owned by Sydney local Ruth
Gaines.
"We particularly wanted to combine the move with a change in status for the
store from being company owned to that of a franchise," Mr Hodgson said.
"Ruth and I have been talking for the past two years and although I am sad about
losing the store where The Essential story began, I am happy that its relocation
will offer a better opportunity to realise its full potential," he said.
In addition to retail space, the Crows Nest premises will eventually incorporate
a demonstration area and cooking school.
The Essential Ingredient is located in Sydney, Melbourne, Tamworth, Canberra,
Albury, Orange and Newcastle. For enquiries phone 9439 9881 or visit

The store will be officially opened tonight and will showcase the latest gourmet
delicacies. Guests will hear from Ed Halmagyi, celebrity chef, who will be
discussing local and international food trends.
