MEDIA RELEASE 12 July 2005
Waterless detailing for cars on water-restricted North Shore
Since 1 July 2005, Level 3 water restrictions have severely limited the
method and number of times that car owners can wash their car. Under the
restrictions, residents on the North Shore face a hefty fine for all breaches,
including washing their car.
Morrison Motors in Gordon has become the first Mercedes-Benz dealer in Australia
to acquire the services of a new eco-friendly waterless car washing company
called Ecowash Mobile.
Ecowash Mobile is a completely waterless mobile car washing and detailing
service and uses an innovative technique to provide a 2-in-1 wash and polish.
As well as not using water, the Ecowash Mobile product range is biodegradable,
making it completely eco-friendly.
James Schramko, General Manager for Morrison Motors, has chosen Ecowash Mobile
to look after every Mercedes-Benz purchased by a customer in July.
“With each vehicle sold during July we will give our clients a year’s worth of
Ecowashing to keep their car looking as good as the day they picked it up,” he
said.
“We’re aware of the water restrictions and would like to act responsibly, but
we’re now taking the next step and encouraging others to do the same. We believe
in the quality of an Ecowash so much we’re providing this as a gift during the
current restrictions.
“We would like to support Ecowash Mobile as a quality detail for our
Mercedes-Benz customers,” Mr Schramko said.
Ecowash Mobile currently wash over 100 cars per day in Sydney, which equates to
a saving of about 90,000 litres of water a week and over 4.6 million litres of
water in a single year compared to regular hose washing.
Because the entire process is totally waterless, an Ecowash can be done anywhere
– in a car park, on the street or even on the dealer’s showroom floor.
The Ecowash Mobile approach uses an exclusive product range that includes a
polymer compound. The compound is sprayed onto the car exterior and encapsulates
surface dirt that is then removed with a soft cloth, leaving behind a protective
coating to guard against the elements and harmful effects of wear and tear.
The complete range of Ecowash Mobile products enables a full detail inside and
out as well as extras such as leather treatment, bumper renovation and scratch
removal - all without water and without a scratch.
Jim Cornish and Stewart Nicholls, Directors of Ecowash Mobile, established the
mobile car detailing business in March 2004 and currently operate in Sydney,
Melbourne and Brisbane.
“We started Ecowash Mobile because in the current Australian environment we saw
a market for car cleaning without using water. In addition, our approach
actually gets a better result than washing a car with water,” Jim Cornish said.
“Ecowash Mobile products take car washing to the next level because we don’t use
water and all our cleaning products are biodegradable and eco-friendly.
“Water-based car washing is also fast becoming a serious concern in the current
Australian drought conditions with water authorities in most states banning car
washing using a hose, as well as restricting car dealers’ car washing
operations,” he said.
A variety of services is on offer, from a basic waterless wash and polish, right
through to a full detail called an Extreme Ecowash, to suit individual car
owners, through to car dealers, smash repairers and corporate fleets.
