MEDIA RELEASE 12 October 2006
Car owners go waterless for National Water Week
In celebration of National Water Week (15 - 21 October) the Australian Water
Association is encouraging car owners to conserve water by considering
environmentally-friendly alternatives to the traditional hose method of washing
a car.
Ecowash Mobile is a mobile waterless car washing and detailing service which, as
well as not using water, cleans with products that are biodegradable.
Ecowash Mobile and its 32 franchisees in NSW, QLD, ACT, Victoria and WA are
currently washing on average 7 cars per day which equates to a saving of about
201,600 litres of water a week.* The company has already saved over 23 million
litres of water since it started in 2004, as listed on their website
www.ecowash.com.au.
In March 2006, Ecowash Mobile was awarded the ‘Smart Approved Watermark’, the
nation’s reference for choosing products, services and organisations that are
reducing outdoor water use.
Co-founders Jim Cornish and Stewart Nicholls say that they started Ecowash
Mobile because in the current Australian environment they saw a market for car
cleaning without using water.
“Water-based car washing is fast becoming a serious concern in the current
Australian drought conditions with water authorities in most states banning car
washing using a hose, as well as restricting car dealers’ car washing
operations,” Jim said.
“Ecowash Mobile products take car washing to the next level because we don’t use
water and all our cleaning products are biodegradable and eco-friendly,” Stewart
said.
The approach uses an exclusive Ecowash Mobile product range that includes a
2-in-1 wash and polish compound. The compound is sprayed onto the car exterior
and encapsulates surface dirt and provides a lubricant, better than water, to
remove dirt with a soft cloth. The polish does not only leave a protective
coating that lasts four to six weeks, but the whole process is guaranteed not to
scratch.
A variety of services are on offer, from a basic waterless wash and polish right
through to a full detail called an Extreme Ecowash, to suit individual car
owners, through to car dealers, smash repairers and corporate fleets.
