Let the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists road show begin!
Twelve mouth and foot painting artists are preparing for a travelling exhibition of New Zealand which begins on 20 July 2010 in Christchurch. The exhibition will showcase artworks by Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) members from around the country.

Kerrin Tilley, a member of the MFPA is working with MFPA artists, Grant Philip, Toni Leefe, Grant Sharman and Murray Cohen to organise the road show.

"While the task seemed a bit daunting at first, with the help of MFPA artists from around New Zealand the road show is falling into place," said Kerrin Tilley.

The road show is a great opportunity to promote the work of the MFPA and its artists. It shows that life continues even for those who lose the use of their hands and in many cases people can lead a much more meaningful life.

"I will be more than happy even if the road show gives inspiration to just one person, showing them that no matter what, if you follow your hopes and dreams you can accomplish many things," said Kerrin Tilley.

The road show will visit the following locations:
- The Cloisters Gallery, Christchurch: 20 to 25 July 2010
- Bottle Greek Gallery, Porirua: 9 to 26 September 2010
- The Thornton Gallery, Hamilton: 29 October to 12 November 2010
- The Steel Gallery in Pukekohe, Auckland: 20 November to 4 December 2010
- The Manukau Super Clinic, Auckland: 8 to 22 December 2010

Founded in 1956 by a group of European artists, the MFPA is a self-help organisation which gives people with disabilities the opportunity to fulfil their creative ambitions while still maintaining financial independence by selectively selling their artworks.

The MFPA was established in New Zealand in 1961 and currently has 20 members.

To become a student member an artist must qualify by painting using a brush held in either their mouth or foot, having lost the use of their hands through an illness or accident. Student members receive scholarships for art supplies and tuition. Once an artist becomes a full member or associate they are guaranteed a salary for life, even if they are unable to continue painting.
