Anaconda opens its doors in Geelong this Saturday
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will open a new store in Geelong this Saturday, 18 August 2007, bringing competition to the local outdoor retailing industry.

The store will be open from 8 am to 9 pm on the corner of Settlement Road and Breakwater Road, Geelong, and the first 500 visitors will receive an Anaconda gift pack worth $95 including a fishing rod, picnic bag and more.

Visitors will have a chance to participate in indoor rock climbing and biking competitions to win various prizes as well as test out the store's kayak pool. Two BBQ areas and local radio station K-Rock FM, which will be broadcasting live, will add entertainment to the day.

Founder and joint-CEO Toby Darvall said he is so pleased to be expanding in Victoria.

"The store looks great! The Anaconda team has done a fantastic job getting the store ready for the big day. We are all very excited about opening a new store in this region and bringing more competition to the outdoor industry," he said.

"We opened our first Anaconda store three years ago in Victoria in the suburb of Bayswater. From our experience, Victorians love getting outside to experience the natural wonders of their home state," Darvall added.

Geelong local and Store Manager Patrick Maple is looking forward to the challenge.

"We have recruited around 46 local staff and we're all ready for a fantastic opening day this Saturday. We're going to make this event entertaining for the whole family," Patrick said.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole spectrum of people in-between," Darvall said.

"We want people to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping in our stores so pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing and a kayak pool are also in our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'," he added.

The new store, to be located on the corner of Settlement Road and Breakwater Road, Geelong, occupies 3,500 square metres and will offer over 35,000 products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Merrell, Garmin, Macpac, Kona, Edelrid as well as Anaconda exclusive brands Spinifex, Denali, Mojiko Tactical, Canyon, Dune and Fluid and others. For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

Anaconda currently has eight stores – four in Queensland, one in NSW, one in Victoria, one in WA and one in SA, with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.
