MEDIA RELEASE 16 July 2007

New outdoor adventure retailer coming to Geelong
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will open a new store in Geelong on Saturday, 25 August 2007.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

Anaconda currently has eight stores – four in Queensland, one in NSW, one in Victoria, one in WA and one in SA, with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.

"We opened our first Anaconda store three years ago in Victoria in the suburb of Bayswater. We're really excited and looking forward to expand in the state with our new Geelong store. From our experience, Victorians love getting outside to experience the natural wonders of their home state," Darvall said.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole spectrum of people in-between.

"The concept behind the stores is based on our belief that Australians want to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping so pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing and a kayak pool are in our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'," he added.

Geelong Store Manager Patrick Maple, who is a Geelong local, is looking forward to the challenge.

"We have recruited around 46 local staff and training is underway. I have background in outdoor and camping retailing and my staff and I are so excited about the idea of sharing our experience with our customers," Patrick said.

The new store, to be located on the corner of Settlement Road and Breakwater Road, Geelong, occupies 3,500 square metres and will offer over 35,000 products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Merrell, Garmin, Macpac, Kona, Edelrid as well as Anaconda exclusive brands Spinifex, Denali, Mojiko Tactical, Canyon, Dune and Fluid and others. For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

Anaconda can be contacted on 1300 669 137 or by visiting www.anaconda.com.au.
