First fully-automatic 4WD all-terrain-vehicle
The first fully-automatic 4WD all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) has just hit the Australian market, and the manufacturer of the vehicle, Club Car, believes the vehicle will bring a new era of safety to transport around farms, beaches and parks.

The 4WD is available in 20 horse-power diesel and petrol engine versions and is designed for use on rugged and hilly terrain as well as more sensitive surfaces.

Matthew Byrne, Manager of Club Car’s utility division, says the Carryall 294 is miles ahead in safety compared to any other ATV currently on the market, and offers significant OH & S benefit.

“The vehicle has a tough and rugged aluminium frame and cargo bed for unmatched durability, backed by the industries best two-year warranty. It also has a fully certified ROPS (rollover protection system), which we believe makes it a much safer alternative compared to the standard quad-bike.

“The vehicle is designed to automatically engage four-wheel-drive by transferring power to the wheels where it is most needed as driving conditions demand, making it ideal for transporting people and cargo on farms, beaches and parkland, and across difficult terrain,” said Byrne.

A recent study by the Queensland Injury Surveillance Unit indicates that quad bikes are now the number one cause of death and serious injury on Australian farms, with rescue helicopters attending an average of three quad bike accidents every week.

“We are very aware of the safety concerns on farms and part of the focus of the design of the Carryall 294 was to develop a ATV vehicle that offered significant advances in safety, without compromising power or durability,” said Byrne.

The new four-wheel drive has a maximum speed of 40 kph and comes with a range of other safety and control features, including a Neutral Safety switch, which means the 4WD will only start in neutral.

A Ground Speed Governor limits the vehicle to a safe maximum speed and an independent park brake lever, and four-wheel hydraulic disk brakes, ensure that the vehicle can stop smoothly on all surfaces, including loose terrain.

The frame and chassis of the vehicle are made from aircraft quality aluminium making it rustproof and corrosion resistant. Other features include seatbelts, headlights, all-terrain tires, and a tilting cargo bed for easy removal of materials on board.

Club Car Australia has a dedicated division devoted to the supply of utility vehicles for specific industry purposes with an Alternate Vehicle Solutions (AVS) section that specifically deals with the design of specialised vehicles for each individual purpose. Club Car can be contacted at its head office in Sydney on 1800 680 088.
