MEDIA RELEASE 20 November 2006
Trade night this Wednesday brings barter to Coffs Harbour
Local businesses in Coffs Harbour are reaping the benefits of increased
sales and an extended client base through using the BBX trading system to trade
goods and services both locally and Australia wide.
Craig Wirth, Trade Coordinator of the Mid-North Coast office, believes BBX can
provide local businesses with the chance to build strong business networks and
provide immense opportunities for business growth, especially in small regional
areas where running a business can be difficult.
“BBX aims to provide the opportunity for these local members to do business with
other local and national businesses they usually would not encounter or even
think to deal with. This will assist members to be well connected within their
regional environment and have an extended contact base within the larger
national and even international BBX network,” he said.
This Wednesday 22 November the company will hold a Trade Expo and is inviting
hundreds of businesses from the region to showcase their goods and services at
Coffs Harbour Ex-services Club. The expo will see all types of businesses
trading their wares in a cashless economy.
“The Expo will offer businesses in and around Coffs Harbour everything from
haircuts and stationary to cars and boats,” said Mr Wirth.
Local businesses are invited to the Trade Expo to see the exciting industry of
trade and how it can benefit their business. The night is free of charge and
includes drinks and snacks. For more information contact the local BBX office on
6651 2454.
“These trade nights are a great way for members to increase sales for their
business. The night also offers two auctions, where members can bid freely on
articles offered up for sale,’ Mr Wirth said.
Some of the prizes include a boat, a car, a horse float and two box trailers, as
well accommodation services.
The principle of barter, exchanging one article for another without the use of
money, goes back to the dawn of history. BBX allows members to trade goods and
services without using cash or credit but rather trade dollars, to assign the
value to transactions that take place between members of the exchange. The
company also offers a broader range of financial services in areas such as
mortgage broking, insurance, business finance and financial planning through two
new ventures, BBX Financial Advisors and BBX Money.
BBX successfully listed on the ASX in August last year to become the only
publicly listed trade exchange in Australasia. Members transacted $146 million
in trade for the 2006 financial year and the company is the second largest trade
operator in Australia, facilitating the ‘cashless’ trading of goods and services
between members.
BBX has approximately 307,000 members in Australia, New Zealand, India and China
and making it the world’s largest reciprocal trade exchange in membership terms.
In September, BBX announced a record net profit after tax of $1.080 million.
This represents an increase of $825,000 or 323 percent over the previous year.
