Melbourne's New Year ban on car-washing creates waterless opportunity
With the introduction of stage three water restrictions, Melbourne residents will be banned from washing their cars from New Year’s Day. As car owners look for new alternatives to keep their cars clean, a new waterless technology offers a good alternative to the traditional hose method of washing a car.

Ecowash Mobile is a waterless mobile car washing and detailing service. In March 2006, the company was awarded the ‘Smart Approved Watermark’, the nation’s reference for choosing products, services and organisations that are reducing outdoor water use.

Dean Binios, Ecowash Mobile Master Franchisee for Victoria and Tasmania since February 2006, says the response from Victorian car owners has been overwelming.

“The response has been incredible because people are looking at alternative ways of washing their cars. We have been very busy and with the new car-washing ban being enforced, we can only expect to become more and more popular,” he said.

“Car owners choose Ecowash Mobile because the service is waterless. But the quality is also superior to traditional washing methods and the convenience of being able to do an Ecowash anywhere is a huge advantage,” Dean said.

As customer demand continues to grow, Dean is actively looking for new entrepreneurs to start their own Ecowash Mobile franchise within their local areas.

“There is great opportunity for people who would like to own an Ecowash Mobile franchise in Victoria, especially with the car-washing ban which is about to be introduced. We provide the highest quality and the most convenient car care system available in Australia plus we offer local residents and businesses a waterless alternative,” Dean said.

Areas currently covered by Ecowash Mobile Victoria include East Brighton, Ballarat, Essendon and their surroundings.

Ecowash Mobile and its 32 franchisees in NSW, QLD, ACT, Victoria and WA are currently washing on average 7 cars per day which equates to a saving of about 201,600 litres of water a week.* The company has already saved over 21 million litres of water since it started in 2004, as listed on their website www.ecowash.com.au.

The approach uses an exclusive Ecowash Mobile product range that includes a 2-in-1 wash and polish biodegradable compound. The compound is sprayed onto the car exterior, encapsulates surface dirt that is then removed with a soft cloth and provides a lubricant. The polish does not only leave a protective coating that lasts four to six weeks, but the whole process is guaranteed not to scratch.

A variety of services are on offer, from a basic waterless wash and polish right through to a full detail to suit individual car owners, car dealers, smash repairers and corporate fleets.

* Based on the traditional hose method of washing a car using 180 litres of water per wash.
