Anaconda cancels its annual snow festival at Bayswater, Everton Park and Ashmore
With its concern for the environment and water conservation issues, outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda has decided to cancel its well-celebrated annual Winterfest previously held at its Bayswater, Everton Park and Ashmore stores.

Toby Darvall, CEO of Anaconda, announced the events which were held to celebrate the opening of the ski season, would not occur in June this year due to severe water restrictions.

"We want to ensure that our practices have as little impact as possible on the environment. With current strict water restrictions, we have decided that it would be inappropriate to hold the snow event again this year," Toby said.

"We hope to be able to bring Winterfest into the community again in the future as it brought joy to a lot of kids, some of who had never experienced snow before," he added.

Last year’s Winterfest attracted in each location over 2,000 kids who had the opportunity to play in 40 tonnes of snow, ride on tobbogans, build snowmen and throw snowballs. The snow was man-made and brought in by truck. Other activities and a BBQ were also featured during the weekend-event.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had previously been a business reporter at Melbourne’s popular daily, The Age.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole spectrum of people in-between," he said.

Anaconda currently has six stores – four in Queensland, one in NSW and one in Victoria, with expansion plans to other states in the near future.

Anaconda has also recently launched an adventure magazine called Outer Edge.

Anaconda can be contacted on 1300 669 137 or by visiting www.anaconda.com.au.
