Waterless car wash creates an outstanding business opportunity
With a growing population and a drying climate, Australia is facing the reality of global warming. As government bodies and world leaders develop national strategies to harness greenhouse emissions, innovative companies are designing more water-efficient technologies to aid consumers' concerns with water conservation.

As a result, two young car enthusiasts have seized on an outstanding business opportunity with a mobile waterless car washing franchise.

Ecowash Mobile Directors Jim Cornish and Stewart Nicholls, both former race and rally drivers, established Ecowash Mobile in March 2004 as a completely waterless mobile car washing and detailing service.

"With water restrictions in place, people are looking at different ways of washing their cars." Nicholls said.

For example, car owners in most capital cities in Australia are currently restricted to using watering cans or buckets to wash their cars and a total ban on car washing in the state of Queensland now applies.

"The response to the brand and the quality and convenience of our service has been fantastic so far. There has also been a huge acknowledgement of the environmental benefits of being a completely waterless operation," he said.

"The business is successful because we offer a professional, convenient and high quality service. Being waterless opens the doors to opportunities that would not be there using traditional car washing methods," Cornish said.

Ecowash Mobile has rapidly grown from a two-car Sydney based service to 36 franchises operating 44 mobile units all around Australia. It has saved over 23 million litres of water since its launch as listed on their website www.ecowash.com.au.*

Ecowash Mobile has also recently launched successful operations in the Middle East and Europe with franchise opportunities being investigated in other countries including Canada, the United States and Greece.

The company has won several Australian awards including the 2006 Small Business Awards Champion of Champions (Automotive Services category) and was more recently listed on the 2007 BRW Upstarts, a list of best 100 emerging companies. In March 2006, the franchise was also awarded the 'Smart Approved Watermark', Australia's reference for choosing products, services and organisations that are reducing outdoor water use.

The Ecowash exclusive product range includes a biodegradable 2-in-1 wash and polish which is sprayed onto the car exterior. It encapsulates surface dirt that is then removed with a soft cloth, leaving behind a protective coating that lasts for four to six weeks.

The complete range of products enables a full detail inside and out including leather treatment, bumper renovation and scratch removal. To ensure long lasting protection of your car, Ecowash Mobile has also just introduced new protection options for paint, fabric and carpet or leather.

A variety of services are on offer, from a basic waterless wash and polish right through to a full detail, to suit individual car owners, car dealers, smash repairers and corporate fleets.
