Geelong Anaconda gives away $5,000 prize to Adventure Club winner
The Geelong store of outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda announced this week the
winner of the $5,000 Anaconda Adventure Club prize, Brett Sharp. Brett collected
his prize on Sunday morning, where he spent four hours choosing a selection of
Anaconda products for his family.
Brett said he was very surprised about his big win.
"We signed up as Adventure Club members while going on a family holiday for the
Australia Day long weekend. It was very incidental as we only popped in to get a
few things for the holiday. I never expected to win a prize like this," Brett
said.
Brett and his family, who live in Warrnambool, two hours away from Anaconda's
Geelong store, took advantage of the $5,000 prize by picking out a range of
Anaconda goods for the whole family.
"There was so much to choose from and even though the kids had lists, we still
needed help from the Anaconda team to pick things out. We ended up with bikes
for the kids, wetsuits, clothes and shoes for the whole family and heaps of
fishing gear," said Brett.
The store's Adventure Club ambassador, Lisa Wilkinson, spoke with Brett Sharp
about his prize.
"He was completely overwhelmed and he told me he had never won anything in his
life. We love to reward our Adventure Club members and it's exciting that this
time it was given to a customer from the Geelong store," Wilkinson said.
Every three months Anaconda gives away a $5,000 prize to a lucky Adventure Club
member from one of its 11 stores around Australia. Anaconda Adventure Club
members enjoy regular exclusive offers, Adventure Club nights at Anaconda stores
where they receive special discounts, and ongoing competitions, including the
quarterly $5,000 prize.
"Anyone can be an Anaconda Adventure Club member. They just need to visit one of
stores, visit us online or call us. It's easy to get in on the fun and have a
chance to win some great prizes," said Toby Darvall, Anaconda Founder and Joint-CEO.
The Anaconda store in Geelong opened in August 2007 and since then has become a
favourite for Geelong residents and those wanting to explore its natural
surrounds.
The concept behind Anaconda stores is based on the company's belief that
Australians want to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping.
Therefore, pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and
stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing
are also in all our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'.
The Geelong store also has a specialised kayak testing pool for customers.
Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share
in a camping and army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years
previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular
daily, The Age.
Anaconda currently has 11 stores - one in NSW, four in Queensland, two in
Victoria, two in WA, one in SA and one in Tasmania with expansion plans
throughout Australia in the near future.
