MEDIA RELEASE 25 February 2008
Outdoor adventure retailer coming to Innaloo
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will officially open its second WA store in
the northern Perth suburb of Innaloo on Thursday, 6 March.
With background in fast food retailing, Innaloo Store Manager Matthew Ness is
looking forward to the challenge.
"We have recruited around 35 staff and have gone through training with a two-day
camping trip. My management team and I have been working in the different
Anaconda stores around Australia for the past few weeks and are really excited
about opening our store," Ness said.
"I enjoy mountain biking, camping and would like to get more into
four-wheel-driving. Anaconda matches my passion with my work so it will be great
to share this experience with our customers," he added.
The outdoor adventure store will be open from 8 am to 9 pm on 6 March and
feature an indoor rock climbing competition, cooking demonstrations, a barbeque
and more. To the first 500 customers, Anaconda will give away a bag including an
Anaconda daypack, aluminium water bottle, stubbie holder, Outer Edge magazine
and a Spinifex travel blanket.
Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share
in a camping and army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years
previously. He had previously been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular
daily, The Age.
Anaconda opened its first WA store in Joondalup in June 2007 and currently has
nine stores – four in Queensland, one in WA, one in NSW, one in SA and two in
Victoria, with expansion plans to other states in the near future.
"Our research told us that West Australians love getting outside to experience
the great natural wonders of their home state so it's an obvious place for us to
want to set up the new store," Darvall said.
"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to
get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor
types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole
spectrum of people in-between.
"The concept behind the stores is based on our belief that Australians want to
be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping so pieces of equipment such
as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store.
Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing are in all our stores to give
customers a feel of the 'real experience'," he added.
The new store, to be located at 401 Scarborough Beach Rd, Innaloo, occupies
3,000 square metres and will offer over 35,000 products for camping, fishing,
climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face,
Columbia, Merrell, Garmin, Macpac, Kona, Edelrid as well as Anaconda exclusive
brands Spinifex, Denali, Mojiko Tactical, Canyon, Dune and Fluid and others.
For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial
it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.
