MEDIA RELEASE 20 November 2008

Huge new outdoor adventure retailer to open in Morayfield
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will open its new Morayfield store on Morayfield Road on Saturday, 6 December 2008.

The new store occupies a vast 2,800 square metres and offers over 35,000 products for just about every outdoor activity including camping, fishing, climbing, cycling, water sports and kayaking.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

"The Caboolture area is an ideal location as it's so close to Moreton Bay and Bribie Island and a short distance to many national parks. Queenslanders love adventuring in the outdoors and have really taken to the Anaconda concept ," Darvall said.

"We're expecting a huge response on Saturday as camping and outdoor adventure sports are particularly popular at the moment with tough economic times looming. Camping with the kids remains one of the best budget options for families - and the kids absolutely love it.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from the avid bush walker to the hardcore mountain climber and the whole spectrum of people in-between.

"The concept behind the stores is based on our belief that Australians want to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping so pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing are in all our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'.

"The new store will open on Saturday, 6 December at 8 am. There will be give-aways in the store and some great opening specials," added Darvall.

Anaconda currently has 16 stores - four in Queensland, three in NSW, five in Victoria, two in WA, one in SA, one in Tasmania with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.

Store Manager Kirsty Niemeyer is looking forward to the challenge.

"We have recruited around 40 local staff and training is already underway. The opening of this large retail store creates so many employment opportunities," Niemeyer said.

The new store, to be located at 182- 190 Morayfield Road, will offer over 35,000 products from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Coleman, Spinifex, Mojiko, Merrell, Garmin, Fluid Bikes, Edelrid and Denali.

For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

In addition, until 31 December, Anaconda is awarding its Adventure Club members with the chance to win a brand new Renault Koleos worth $47,000 when they spend $100 or more in store.
