Retail solution solves display and security issue for cameras in Target
Provider of marketing at retail solutions Propel Interactive has just completed a pilot project with discount department retailer Target to display digital cameras, camcorders and mobile phones.

The MTI Freedom display system has been trialled in eight larger format Target stores to display the consumer electronics products above the counter allowing customers to touch and feel them rather than wait for a retail sales assistant to unlock the products from glass cabinets.

The MTI Freedom has been developed by US-based MTI and Propel Interactive, its exclusive distributor in Australia and New Zealand.

Freedom allows each camera to be individually tethered so customers can pick up the product and actually try it before buying it (currently powered by batteries in Target stores).

Propel's General Manager Craig Burnard says that the Target trial has been really successful and they are now rolling it out to more stores.

"The response from the Target trial has been very positive and there are a number of other retailers also undertaking trials. MTI Freedom has a number of other benefits that go beyond secure tethering," says Burnard.

"The system allows for each product to be powered up utilising the individual smart cables developed by MTI that match each individual product with the right connector.

"There is also an option to connect a touch screen to show product information including stock levels, like a silent salesperson. Plus, retailers can count how many times an individual product was picked up by potential customers.

"A system like the MTI Freedom will never replace sales assistants but it can certainly assist customers while a sales assistant attends to other customers," added Burnard.

MTI Freedom will also be used on the OIympus stand at the upcoming PMA Show in Melbourne in June to display a range of Olympus products.
