Anaconda gears up for Fountain Gate Grand Opening this Saturday
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will officially open its new Fountain Gate store in the Casey Lifestyle Centre on the Princes Highway this Saturday, 29 November at 8 am.

Fountain Gate store manager Mark Illbury is looking forward to the big day.

"I've been told that every Anaconda store opening attracts thousands of people and some of them even start lining up from 5 am," Illbury said.

"We have recruited around 50 local staff, many of whom have background in outdoor and camping retailing and we're really excited about the idea of sharing this experience with our customers.

"We have some great activities planned for day one including free Anaconda gift bags for the first 500 people through the door. The Anaconda enviro-bag contains a Denali microfibre towel, Anaconda aluminium water bottle and an Aquatica beach dome set, valued at over $80.

"We'll also have some fun activities like free climbing on the rock wall, face painting and Cobb cooking demonstrations. There will also be some great specials, not only at the Fountain Gate store but also at the Carnegie, Frankston, Bayswater and Geelong stores.

"In addition, until 31 December, Anaconda is awarding its Adventure Club members with the chance to win a brand new Renault Koleos worth $47,000 when they spend $100 or more in store," Illbury added.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping and army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

The concept behind the stores is based on Anaconda's belief that Australians want to be entertained and have fun while they are shopping. Therefore, pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock climbing are also in all Anaconda stores to give customers the feel of the 'real experience'.

Anaconda will now have 16 stores - three in NSW, four in Queensland, five in Victoria, two in WA, one in SA and one in Tasmania with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.

The new store occupies 2,500 square metres and will offer over 35,000 products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Coleman, Spinifex, Mojiko, Merrell, Garmin, Fluid Bikes, Edelrid and Denali.

For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

The Anaconda Fountain Gate store can be contacted on (03) 8796 6000.
