MEDIA RELEASE 27 February 2008

Come celebrate Anaconda Logan's 1st Year Anniversary
Outdoor adventure retailer Anaconda will celebrate the first year anniversary of its Logan store on Saturday, 8 March with a live crocodile (and handler) in store plus entertainment for the whole family.

The outdoor adventure store, located in the Logan Mega Centre, will be open from 9 am to 5 pm and feature free face painting, a giant Anaconda cake, free pinnacle rock climbs, cooking demonstrations and more between 10 am and 4 pm. St Johns ambulance representatives will also be on hand for first aid tips when adventuring.

Anaconda will be offering in-store special discounts for the occasion and the first 100 visitors will receive a bag full of Anaconda goodies.

Store Manager Andy Stewart said he is excited about putting together these first year celebrations as the local community has been very supportive of the store in its first year of operations.

"The local community has really embraced our concept. We now have over 17,000 VIP members and have seen an increase in visits of about eight per cent in the past three months," Stewart said.

"Customers who once might have travelled overseas are now opting to spend their holidays in Australia and camp out to experience the great natural wonders of our country.

"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor types from hardcore adrenalin junkies to families on holiday and the whole spectrum of people in-between.

"We want people to be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping in our store so pieces of equipment such as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store. Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing and a kayak pool are also in some of our stores to give customers a feel of the 'real experience'," he added.

The Logan store, located at 3525 Pacific Highway, Slacks Creek, occupies 3,500 square metres and offers over 35,000 products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous brands as The North Face, Columbia, Merrell, Garmin, Macpac, Kona, Edelrid as well as Anaconda exclusive brands Spinifex, Denali, Mojiko, Tactical, Canyon, Dune, Fluid and others. For customers who haven't decided to invest in the equipment and want to trial it first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.

Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular daily, The Age.

Anaconda currently has ten stores – one in NSW, four in Queensland, two in Victoria, two in WA and one in SA, with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.
