MEDIA RELEASE 27 November 2008
Queensland attracts more Anaconda outdoor adventure stores
Outdoor adventure retailer chain, Anaconda will open two more Queensland stores
this December, making six stores for the state overall, more than any other,
proving that Queenslanders love the outdoors.
"Queenslanders have a real passion and love for the outdoors and a strong
camping culture that has been carried on through the generations," said Anaconda
Ashmore store manager Andy Stewart. "This is why Anaconda stores have been so
well received in Queensland, as they fit in with our outdoor lifestyle."
Anaconda was founded in November 2004 by Toby Darvall, after selling his share
in a camping & army surplus wholesale business he co-founded 13 years
previously. He had formerly been a business reporter at Melbourne's popular
daily, The Age.
"Camping and outdoor adventure sports are particularly popular at the moment
with tough economic times looming," said Anaconda CEO Toby Darvall.
"Queensland is home to a diverse range of climates from mountain ranges, table
lands, rainforest and beautiful beaches and camping with the kids remains one of
the best budget options for families - and the kids absolutely love it.
"At Anaconda we pride ourselves on inspiring, equipping and enabling people to
get outdoors and experience their own adventure. Anaconda is for all outdoor
types from the avid bush walker to the hardcore mountain climber and the whole
spectrum of people in-between.
"The concept behind the stores is based on our belief that Australians want to
be entertained and have fun whilst they are shopping so pieces of equipment such
as climbing gear, tents, gas lanterns and stoves can all be tested in-store.
Climbing pinnacles for indoor rock-climbing are in all our stores to give
customers a feel of the 'real experience'.
The Kawana and Morayfield stores will make a total of 18 across Australia - six
in Queensland, three in NSW, five in Victoria, two in WA, one in SA, one in
Tasmania with expansion plans throughout Australia in the near future.
Each store occupies on average 3,000 square metres and offers over 35,000
products for camping, fishing, climbing, cycling and kayaking from such famous
brands as The North Face, Columbia, Coleman, Spinifex, Mojiko, Garmin, Fluid
Bikes, Edelrid and Denali.
For customers who decide not to invest in the equipment and want to trial it
first, Anaconda not only sells products but also rents a range of them out.
