A 14W light globe can be as bright as a 60W light globe
A newer and better technology called compact fluorescent lights (CFL) uses approximately 20 percent of the energy compared to incandescent globes and last eight times as long.

By installing six of these new CFL energy saving light globes, Wollongong householders can save $150 off their annual electricity bill. In addition, because it requires less power, householders are also saving one tonne of greenhouse gas pollution from entering earth’s atmosphere.

Ruth Martin, who rents in Sydney, installed the new energy saving light globes and said the CFLs produce surprising results.

“My flat is surrounded by trees, so not much light gets through the windows. I installed energy saving light globes and it made such a difference. I just can’t believe how bright my apartment is now. The light is much whiter as well. It’s great,” Ruth said.

To replace an existing incandescent globe with a CFL, get the product that provides one fifth the output of your existing globe. For example, a 60W incandescent globe will be replaced with a 14W CFL. Also, be sure to use a good quality CFL as poor quality CFLs give out a less pleasant light.

Easy Being Green is currently distributing six energy saving or CFL light globes in their Climate Saver Packs - free of charge. The pack also contains a AAA rated water saving showerhead (for electric hot water users).

Householders can also obtain energy saving light globes from supermarkets.

To collect your Climate Saver Pack free of charge, visit the friendly Easy Being Green teams at Westfield Figtree or visit www.easybeinggreen.com.au.
