Environmentally aware school stores 70,000 litres of rainwater
An environmentally savvy school in Victoria has recently incorporated unique water tanks to its learning environment to help reduce its water consumption.

The Rain Reviva bladder tank system from Australian company New Water is flexible enough to fit under a house, deck or portable and can capture up to 300 percent more water than a standard tank system.

Ringwood Secondary College in Victoria has installed sixteen of these innovative rainwater tanks under its portables, storing up to 70,000 litres of water for use in toilets and bathrooms, helping relieve some of the strain on the local water resources. In addition to this, they are currently installing three rigid Rain Reviva tanks for use on the gardens and lawn.

Andrew Pearce, CEO of New Water, said schools are increasingly looking at ways to help the environment whilst also educating their students about the importance of saving water. He explained that New Water's Rain Reviva system is ideal for schools as it does not intrude on garden or playground areas

"It's great to see such a forward thinking school take steps to considerably reduce its water consumption. The students can be sensitised to saving water in and around the school," Pearce said.

"Homeowners need to also think seriously about how rainwater tanks can make a real difference, and we believe this is the best and most innovative way to harness and store rainwater. The fact that the tanks stay out of sight is an obvious bonus," he added.

The Australian made system was invented by Malcolm Gordon, Operations Manager of New Water, who has worked in the water industry for over 20 years. He is one of the leading experts in the construction of practical solutions to water treatment and storage challenges faced by both domestic and commercial entities.

The patented system incorporates an inlet that efficiently diverts the rainwater from each downpipe into the bladders and when they are full, ensures the excess water reverts back to the stormwater outlet. A pump system then allows the water to be reticulated to a range of devices such as the garden hose, the pool, sprinkling systems and even the washing machine and dishwasher.

It is sold by New Water throughout the country as a full kit, which includes a pump and pressure control mechanism.

Other products by New Water include the grey water treatment system Aqua Reviva, which employs a biological treatment process capable of treating up to 700 litres of water per day.

New Water is also a founding member of the Australian Grey Water Institute (AGWI), which endeavours to educate governments and the community about the benefits of grey water treatment.

All New Water products are Australian designed and made. The company also sells Microslim, Slimline and In-slab tanks.
