MEDIA RELEASE 30 April 2008
Happy pigs are tasty pigs
For third generation farmers, Stephen and Kim Roberts, happy free range pigs
make the best pork.
Boasting a sweet, tasty, succulent flavour, the Roberts family-owned Bundawarrah
Free Range Pork is testament to its ongoing commitment to providing a natural
environment for its stock.
"Our goal is to provide a natural stress-free habitat for our pigs, while also
ensuring their health and welfare. Born and bred free range, all of our pigs are
free to express their natural behaviour, in a stress free, welfare orientated
environment, cared for by trained stock people," Kim Roberts said.
"We love going to the Capital Region Farmers Markets where our customers have
become our friends! It is a family affair, with Steve and I plus any two of our
three daughters there every Saturday. It gives us the opportunity to talk to our
customers and educate them about why our Free Range Pork is so special.
"We also produce our popular Saltbush Lamb, named because of the saltbush they
graze on, resulting in the distinct flavour of the meat. All of our meats are
hormone-free, chemical-free, stress-free, residue-free and 100 per cent
Australian owned," she added.
Bundawarrah Free Range Pork has won of a number of awards, including the
Riverina Foods Group Golden Plate Award in 2001 and 2002.
Customers can choose from an array of lamb and pork meat trays, tasty ham and
bacon, sausages and small goods like salami and prosciutto. Prices range from
$2.20 per kilogram through to speciality cuts at $40.99 per kilogram, with very
affordable pricing on bulk orders.
"Our Sausage range is gluten free and our new small goods range is hand crafted.
All the items in this range contain less than 10 per cent fat, no artificial
preservatives, are gluten free and made in the true 'Old Italian' style," Kim
Roberts said.
The Capital Region Farmers Market is a genuine famers market with over 100
stalls offering a diverse range of fresh food and agricultural produce straight
from the producer to the customer. It is open every Saturday morning at the
Exhibition Park (EPIC) from 8 am to 11 am.
All funds generated from the Market are fed back into regional communities and
other projects chosen by the Rotary Club of Hall which founded the Market in
2004.
