Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery

The Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery was established in 1999 as a multidisciplinary body consisting of general surgeons, plastic surgeons, dermatologists, ear nose and throat specialists and other doctors who were already specialising in cosmetic surgery.

In the wake of the death of a liposuction patient in Melbourne in 2007, ACCS was prompted to appoint DRPR in order for the college to voice its concerns about the need for new rules that would raise surgery standards and protect patients.

Campaign aims

  • Issues management in both a reactive and proactive sense
  • Raise awareness
  • Build credibility
  • Build closer relationships with key medical writers.

What we achieved
Dennis Rutzou Public Relations worked with ACCS to raise awareness and credibility of the college. This resulted in closer relationships with key medical writers and led to an increased number of media enquiries directed to the ACCS, the majority of which would have previously been directed to the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. The ACCS now has its voice heard through the media both alongside the plastic surgeons and on its own, raising awareness of the organisation and its stances on prominent issues in the industry.
