10 tips to get media coverage for your small business
Apr 13th
I’ll be running again, next month, another PR Mentor program for small businesses. Every time I run this type of PR training program, the question that’s by far the most popular on participants’ mind is: ‘How can I get my business in the media?’. Many organisations and experts are keen to become the go-to entity in their field, which can be achieved by delivering good media interviews and expressing their views on their industry. But is that something reserved only for the big end of town?
Small businesses can have their place under the sun too, but if your business doesn’t claim the More >
Taking a stand for sensationalism
Mar 8th
That’s right. You’ve heard me. I’ve decided to get behind sensationalist news headlines.
The theory behind sensationalist headlines perhaps?
I’m normally the one cringing and banging my fists on the desk at the sight of overly colourful and scandalous headlines. But not today.
In our world of information overload where we have 140 characters to grab someone’s attention, be useful, entertaining and also drive a call to action, I think we can cut those journalists a bit of slack…
I’ll probably be back flinching and screaming for objectivity in our news headlines tomorrow but for now, let me just cheer to blood, sex and More >

‘Tis the season to crack some jokes
Dec 22nd
If there’s a Christmas tradition that has done some good PR for itself it’s well and truly Christmas crackers…
The little goodies that fly across the room every time you pop one (if you’re lucky enough for it not to go straight for your neighbour’s face!) are completely random and worthless, the hats are hideous (and don’t fit my big head!) and the jokes are often a bit of a let down.
Despite all this, you can be pretty sure you’ll be crackin’ one of these little poppies at Chrissy this year!
So in the spirit of it all (and because who More >
How social media has changed the business ball game…
Nov 24th
When we started talking to our clients in early 2008 about social media and the need to start engaging, there were a few cautious nods of approval. Everyone was sitting on the fence, not convinced of the potential or the need for social media in their business.
Three and a half years on, organisations know they need to understand social media and, while some of them are still careful, they are willing to learn and try.
I’ve been asked lately to speak at various CEO functions on the power of social networking for business. Putting things into context, I always take the More >
Nurturing your LinkedIn connections

Nurturing LinkedIn connections
LinkedIn can be used as a simple ‘business card holder’ where all you do is connect with people so you can have their up-to-date contact details at all times. Or, on the other hand, it can be used as a powerful connection channel to create new contacts, deepen relationships and open the doors to business opportunities.
In both cases, as LinkedIn is a network of professional connections, there is a fundamental need to nurture your contacts.
I was invited last week to speak at the CEO Institute on the power of LinkedIn for business and below is my ‘P-E-R-M’ principle More >
